Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said he believes his tenure at the helm of the English Premier League champions’ coaching staff will be the longest with any team during his coaching career.
However, the veteran Spanish coach has refrained from discussing any details relating to his future with the club after his current contract expires in 2023.
Since taking over his coaching in 2016, Guardiola (51) has led City to four Premier League title wins, the English Professional League Cup four times and the FA Cup once, and his current contract with club will expire next summer.
Guardiola told reporters on Friday: I don’t think I will continue with any team for seven years, continuing your position as manager requires support. Results undoubtedly play an important role. In big clubs, the success of a coach depends in part on the chairman of the board, the sporting director in particular and everyone present.
Second-placed City meet Brentford at home later on Saturday in their last game before suspension due to the World Cup, which starts in Qatar on the 20th of this month.
Guardiola said the contract renewal issue would be resolved with the club’s management at an appropriate time, without disclosing further details.
