My Son Didn’t Deserve The Brutal End, His Murderers Should Be Hanged: UP Communal Violence Victim’s Family

Tragic Communal Clash Claims Life of Young Husband in Bahraich

In a heartbreaking incident during the Durga idol immersion on October 13, Ram Gopal Mishra, 19, tragically lost his life in a communal clash in the Maharajganj area of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Kailashnath, is now calling for the death penalty for those responsible, emphasizing the brutal and senseless nature of his son’s death.

Grief Strikes a Family with Dreams and Aspirations

Ram Gopal Mishra had only recently tied the knot three months ago and was looking forward to pursuing a job opportunity in Delhi, full of ambition and dreams. “My son didn’t deserve such a brutal end. He had plans for a future that will never be fulfilled," lamented Kailashnath, 75, as he sought justice for his son. "The murderers should be hanged.” The family described the young man’s last moments in agony, citing evidence of torture before his death, including numerous pellet injuries on his body.

Mishra’s family, devastated by the loss, met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who assured them of justice and announced a financial assistance package of Rs 10 lakh to support them in this difficult time. The family is also set to receive government aid for housing, sanitation, and healthcare under the Ayushman scheme.

A Sister’s Anguished Plea for Justice

The sorrow within the Mishra family has been compounded by the younger sister’s passionate plea for justice. “If I could, I would have killed my brother’s murderers with my own hands. We want death penalty for those who killed my brother,” Priti said, revealing the deep emotional pain and anger felt by the family. This sentiment of injustice resonates strongly with the community, deepening their call for swift and strict action against the offenders.

Kishan, a cousin of Ram Gopal, mentioned the Chief Minister’s commitment to strict action against the perpetrators, stating, “He assured us that this unforgivable incident would not go unpunished.”

Family’s Account of the Chaotic Incident

As detailed by Ram Gopal’s brother, Harimilan, the day began with joyful preparations at a nearby temple ahead of the Durga Puja procession, expected to pass around 12:30 PM. However, tensions escalated around 4:30 PM when members of another community requested the music system to be turned off, leading to an explosion of conflict.

“The idol’s hand broke due to stone-pelting, which infuriated the devotees,” Harimilan explained. In what could be perceived as an unfortunate escalation, police intervention included lathi-charging the Hindu crowd, which some believe contributed to the chaos that ensued. Amid the turmoil, Ram Gopal tried to replace a flag with a saffron one, likely catalyzing hostility from the opposing side. “That act may have proved fatal for Ram Gopal,” Harimilan said, recalling the shocking turn of events.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Bahraich Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla confirmed that during the procession, arguments erupted leading to the tragic death of Ram Gopal. The post-mortem suggested he was a victim of excessive bleeding caused by shrapnel injuries. Police have already arrested more than 50 individuals connected to the incident as part of an ongoing investigation, utilizing video footage to identify those involved.

In reaction to the violence, the UP government took decisive steps by removing key police officials involved in the incident, aiming to restore order and instill public confidence. District Magistrate Monika Rani verified the arrests, with further investigations continuing.

Community’s Response and Call for Unity

The incident has left the local community in shock. A neighbor of the Mishra family echoed the sentiment: “Their laughter turned into tears in an instant.” The grieving family is now at the center of a community urging for unity and resistance against communal strife.

As the investigation unfolds, the public and the Mishra family await justice for Ram Gopal. Observers highlight the broader implications of this tragedy, emphasizing the need for communal harmony and understanding in a region fraught with tension.

This unfortunate event serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the ongoing struggles against communal discord. We invite readers to reflect on these events and engage in dialogue about promoting peace and unity in our communities.
