The track and field athlete Mujinga Kambundji is the Bernese athlete of the year. Sport climber Sascha Lehmann from Burgdorf won the men’s event.
The government council also honored sport climber Noé Looser and skier Livio Hiltbrand as young talents of the year at the Cantonal Sports Awards on Monday evening in Biel. This was announced by the security directorate.
The beach volleyball team Hüberli/Brunner received the team award. The hearing-impaired athlete Kim Lenoir from Konolfingen was named Berne’s Athlete of the Year with Impairment.
All Bernese athletes who stood on the podium at the Olympic Games, World and European Championships or other top-class events between September 2023 and August 2024 were honored at the Biel Congress Center. Over 50 medal winners were present.
“With your commitment and your successes, you have achieved great things for the canton of Bern,” said government councilor Philippe Müller, according to the text of the speech. Together with District President Evi Allemann, he presented all athletes present with a certificate. (sda/neo1)
