His 89-year-old mother from Rouvres-Saint-Jean, died on January 24 as a result of Covid-19, in the hospital of Pithiviers. She had been admitted there 1 month earlier, with a negative test, after falling. Since then, Nathalie Devienne wants to know the truth.
Under what circumstances was your mother hospitalized in Pithiviers?
My mother was perfectly independent and had her own apartment. She was fine, but she had a bad fall December 23 last, we called the firefighters who transported her to the emergency room of the Pithiviers hospital. There, as is the current protocol for any admission, she underwent a test PCR at Covid-19: she was negative.
His stay was then extended?
Yes, she had broken her femoral neck 4 years earlier, we had to check that it was not the same thing again. She was therefore admitted to the SSR service (follow-up and rehabilitation care). A doctor then suspected nodules in the liver, or even the beginning of cancer in the pancreas and wanted to do analyzes: she was to pass a PET scam in Montargis on January 13, but the examination never took place, and I did not do not know why.
And that’s when she told you about several cases of Covid within the SSR service …
On January 14, she told me over the phone that the visits were suspended because there were several cases of Covid within the SSR: 9 service, to her knowledge. She explains to me that she suffered a new PCR test the day before, so January 13, and that she was negative again, which a doctor confirmed to me.
Then the situation suddenly worsens …
When I called her on Sunday January 17th, she told me that she had had a lot of fever the night before and was not feeling well at all. She had difficulty speaking. The next day, January 18, the hospital tells me that my mother had a suspicion of Covid, a new PCR test is carried out, and this time it’s positive. My mom left on Sunday January 24, from the Covid suites – that’s what the death certificate says – that she was only able to contract inside the Pithiviers hospital.
Did the Pithiviers hospital follow all the precautions?
Not for me. This famous January 13, during my last visit to my mother, I can assure you that hospitalized people wandered quite freely in the ward, as well as families. In addition, people were in Double room, it was the case of my mother; in my opinion she was put in contact with someone positive and that is why she was then moved to a room only, but it was already too late.
What do the Pithiviers hospital and its supervisory authority, the CHRO, answer you?
I asked for my mother’s medical record, I still don’t have it to this day. When I ask embarrassing questions, they take me very high, as I was looked down upon throughout my mother’s hospitalization, – in particular a doctor who asks me “if I belong to the profession” … It is abominable. I live it very badly, I think there is a minimum of respect towards families: we owe them the truth anyway.
You will not stop there?
I want that light be shed on the responsibility of the Pithiviers hospital concerning my mother’s contamination by Covid within the SSR service. The CHRO offered me an appointment to discuss it orally, but I refused because I want written answers, starting with the copies of the 3 PCR tests that my mother underwent. I contacted a lawyer to put all this in the hands of justice.
