My job in the country: Julian Seitlinger

Already at dawn, Julian Seitlinger can be found in the Antheringer or Weitwörther Au, be it stalking, checking reforestation areas, marking trees that are to be felled by farmers with reforestation rights or one of his other diverse tasks. From January 1, 2025, he will be responsible for the Salzachauer district.

Forestry, hunting and nature conservation

Although hunting is part of Julian Seitlinger’s tasks, it only takes up around a third of the activities. “There are three areas that we care about in the Salzach meadows. These are forestry, hunting and nature conservation,” says Julian Seitlinger and he emphasizes: “Each of the three areas needs the other for the whole thing to work. We have a lot of reforestation areas that I take care of; paths and high stands are repaired. But feeding the game in snowy winters is also one of the activities that occurs during the year.”

Regional wood from the Au

As a forestry expert, the district manager also ensures that the farmers can exercise their servitude rights. “I look after those entitled to benefits. These are the people who are allowed to take a certain amount of wood here every year and handle it all. “I also coordinate the companies in the region that process the country’s wood from the Au,” says Seitlinger. A very important part of the work is reforestation with a variety of trees that also belong in the floodplain.

The focus is on balance

It is also important for the development of the Salzachauer Nature Park that there is a wildlife population that is adapted to the floodplains. “I make sure that there isn’t too much game, otherwise the forest won’t grow. At the same time, it shouldn’t be too little,” says the district manager, who does this with great care and in a “waiting-friendly” manner. “I am convinced that the state of Salzburg can also show how hunting, forestry and nature conservation can be reconciled with the Salzachauern project,” says Julian Seitlinger, who carries out his job as district manager with enthusiasm.
