“My hospital is going to crack”, call for an indefinite strike to support the emergencies of the Montpellier University Hospital

2 unions are calling for the mobilization of staff this Monday to denounce the deterioration of working conditions at the public hospital. The CGT of the Montpellier University Hospital and FO have filed an indefinite strike notice from July 4.

The unions are asking for more human resources for emergencies as the summer vacation begins.
They point to “out of breath” services. And always the same observations, sick leaves for professional exhaustion which are multiplying, numerous requests for availability, significant resignations…

In short, despite an attractiveness and loyalty plan, a new social agreement and the announcement of the creation of 130 permanent contracts, a few weeks ago, the hospital remains under tension.

Whether in adult or pediatric emergencies in Lapeyronie or head and neck in Gui De Chauliac, the situation is now critical and this, on the verge of summer: the reception and care conditions for patients and their families are threatened.

Press release FO / CGT of the CHP de Montpellier.

The strike on Monday and the mobilization of agents at noon aim to find quick solutions to deal with the summer crisis.

For emergency services, they claim:

  • Rapid responsiveness to make all healthcare players participate in the regulation of upstream flows
  • Enable safe care pathways for users and caregivers
  • Regulation of downstream flows in order to hospitalize patients who need it
  • Overhaul the management of emergencies and unscheduled care.

For paramedical and medical hospital staff :

  • Consequent revaluation of the index point, wages and allowances for time constraints and arduous work: night, Sundays and public holidays
  • Develop a vast training plan for nursing staff in order to allow massive recruitment
  • Reinforcement of resources for establishments and recruitment of staff (stretcher bearers, couriers, workers, logisticians, secretaries) so that everyone is focused on their core business
  • Staff ratios adapted to the care load
  • Salary measures to retain doctors and prioritize their assignment to the hospital.

On Friday July 1, ARS Occitanie presented the government’s plan to meet summer needs for emergencies and unscheduled care. The measures announced are targeted for 3 months.

The axes are a better orientation of patients thanks to the 15, a strengthening of the medical regulation teams, more professionals available with the financial incentive for general practitioners to welcome patients referred by the 15, extended opening of medical centers on duty, resorting to telemedicine, to facilitate the recruitment of liberal professionals, to appeal to retirees…

  • Better orientation and before going to the emergency room call 15 with information campaigns already launched in Occitania with the campaign “emergencies are not automatic”
  • Have more health professionals in town with appropriate measures (increase in unscheduled care consultations of 15 euros; opening of on-duty medical homes on Saturday mornings; possibility of transporting patients to liberals and on-duty medical homes; recourse to telemedicine; association of other health professionals) and to the hospital (by facilitating the exercise of liberals within the hospital, interns, retirees)
  • Specific measures for hospital staff: revaluation of the index point, increase in night hours, increase in overtime, tenure
  • Support the coordination of actors: implementation of the care access service, public and private PDSES, coordination of downstream beds by the ARS
  • Adaptation of the functioning of emergency services according to local situations
  • Extension of the financing guarantee for healthcare establishments until December 31, 2022

The trade unions will be received on Wednesday by the management of the CHU. They also asked for a meeting with the regional management of ARS Occitanie “to discuss an unprecedented and now urgent situation”.
