“My childhood dream is destroyed!”

ALZENAU-KÄLBERAU (jm). Every Sunday we present you with a chic vintage car from people from the region – including Martin Ullrich’s Kawasaki motorcycle last September. However, the history of the Kälberauer Kawasaki has taken a dramatic turn. After an accident, the two-wheeler is badly damaged and no longer roadworthy. To make matters worse, the insurance Martin Ullrich causes problems and an important witness cannot be found. Now he hopes to at least be able to prove his innocence in the accident.

“My heart is in the machine. I’m still feeling very bad today,” reports a visibly upset Martin Ullrich. “I don’t know how to continue.” He is facing his life’s work of the last few years – broken, no longer mobile. In his youth he drove a similar model. “I started with Kawasaki 250,” remembers Ullrich. “A few years later I even had a big 750.” Almost 30 years ago, the trained mechanical engineer fulfilled another childhood dream with a Kawasaki S2 built in 1971. “It must have been on the first ship that these models from Japan brought to Germany!” For many years he restored his piece of jewelery with a lot of love, effort and above all expenditure. “Due to the origin and the age, you can hardly find spare parts anymore,” says the motorcycle fanatic. “USA, Japan, Italy, France – I’ve tried all over the world to find the necessary parts!” And with success – it’s not for nothing that the model appeared in PrimaSonntag last September. He was also a permanent guest at many trade fairs and exhibitions.

Fateful journey

However, that all changed abruptly a few weeks ago. It happened on a Wednesday, the sun was shining, the sky was blue – everything was ready for a motorcycle tour. Martin Ullrich was also on his Kawasaki. At the end of his round he wanted to visit his son in Alzenau. “I drove very slowly into the roundabout on Industriestrasse,” Ullrich remembers. “At the level of the second exit, a Mercedes driver drove into the roundabout and didn’t see me.” There was a crash! The pensioner injured his knee and ankle slightly – lying on the ground his first thoughts went straight to his machine. “I just hoped it wasn’t badly damaged.” Immediately after the accident, an unidentified man came to help. He set up the machine and helped Ullrich up. “Unfortunately, he left quickly after that, so I didn’t find out his name.” The worst fears were to be confirmed later. “The fork is warped and the frame probably needs to be remeasured,” explains the classic car fan. The brakes were also badly damaged by the accident. Spare parts are still a rarity.

who is the helpful witness?

However, it got even worse – the opposing insurance company sees partial responsibility for the pensioner. “I have zero percent to blame, I couldn’t help it,” pleads Ullrich. “I was simply overlooked and was run over!” The whole situation is a burden for Kälberauer. “I don’t think many people can understand that, nor do they have to, but for me this Kawasaki is something very special.” Martin Ullrich now wants to find his helper. “I would like to thank him very warmly and personally for his quick reaction. That is by no means a matter of course!” On the other hand, he may have seen the accident itself. “That won’t bring my Kawasaki back either,” Martin Ullrich mourns. “But maybe he can bring some clarity between the two parties!”
