World-Today News: Clara, you have titled your third studio album “My Blood”. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind this title and how it relates to the overall themes of the album?
Clara Luciani: The title “My Blood” comes from a very simple idea: family. When you’re family, you share a lot of things; you share your time, your experiences, your emotions… In French, “blood” means family, so it was natural for me to use this metaphor to express the strong connection I feel with the people around me. The album is a tribute to all of them, to my loved ones, and to the journey we’ve been through together.
Alex Kapranos: Clara’s pregnancy was also a big inspiration for this album. She was writing songs while carrying our child, and I was lucky enough to be there with her every step of the way. I think the album reflects this new phase of life, the love and joy that comes with having a family, but also the challenges and insecurities that come with it.
World-Today News: Your previous album “Heart of Steel” was more disco-focused, while “My Blood” leans towards rock sounds. What made you decide to take this direction for your latest work?
Clara Luciani: I’ve always been inspired by different genres of music, and I wanted to explore a new soundscape for this album. Rock has always been part of my musical background, so it felt natural to incorporate it into my pop sound. It allowed me to express more emotions and dynamic ranges in my songs.
Alex Kapranos: As Clara mentioned, the rock sound on this album came from a genuine place. It was exciting for me to collaborate with her and add my guitar work to some of the tracks. I think it gave the album a unique energy that sets it apart from her previous work.
