Diana Matar exhibits around 100 photos of places where Americans have been killed by local police. Sober, enlightening and more complex than it seems.

These are mostly black and white images. Not a single human presence. Nothing but deserted places: roadside, lawn, parking lot, banal street… A hundred places photographed by Diana Matar for one and the same reason: in each of these places, someone was killed by the American police. The United States indeed possesses the sad privilege of the world’s highest rate of police homicides.

“The biggest job was to find the information to find the places where these people had been shot, explains the photographer in the room that hosts her work at the Museum of Photography in Charleroi. After a first step of research, I made a plan and I selected the four states with the highest rate of people killed by the police: Texas, California, New Mexico and Oklahoma. “
