My 5 best games of 2020

The year is drawing to a close and it has been a great year for games. This post is about my personal Xbox highlights 2020.

2020 was an important year for Microsoft, as it not only brought two new consoles onto the market, but also xCloud, a streaming service for games. The years to come will be even more important and I’m delighted that Microsoft is finally giving the Xbox division the attention it deserves.

With the launch of the Xbox Series X, I also played some Xbox games and in this post I would like to tell you about my very personal highlights in 2020. I would also be happy if you could tell me your favorites that you played this year. That will certainly help other readers.

Before we start: If in doubt, just get the Xbox Game Pass, for 1 euro you can test the Ultimate version for a month. There is so much to discover and there are also some of my highlights from this list.

And one more note: I’m currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 and it’s been a lot of fun so far. But I want to spend a little more time with the game and not gamble through it quickly just to get it over. So there will soon be a separate article and who knows, maybe this will also be my highlight in 2020.

5th place: Celeste

Celeste is one of the games that has been on my list for a very long time and I couldn’t bring myself to buy it yet. Lo and behold, it is part of the Xbox Game Pass and so the decision after the first set-up of the Xbox Series X was made clearly: Celeste got a chance.

I would say it’s worth the $ 20 it costs, but I’d just put the $ 20 in the Xbox Game Pass and play the game there.

Platz 4: Ori and the Will of the Wisps

A game I’ve wanted to play for a long time and is one of those titles that have been on my list forever. With the new Xbox I have now played the optimized version and since the game is included in the Xbox Game Pass, I didn’t pay anything extra.

A really great game if you like platforming titles. Ori and the Will of the Wisps has great graphics, an even better soundtrack and generally brings across a nice atmosphere. I can recommend it as a purchase and if you use the Xbox Game Pass and don’t know Ori, then definitely give it a try.

3rd place: Forza Horizon 4

For many this is an old title, but I played the racing game for the first time this year and then also directly as a version that was optimized for the Xbox Series X. I can now understand why the game has so many fans.

I’m usually more of the Mario Kart type when it comes to racing games and I can’t do much with real cars. And actually, I only wanted to play Forza Horizon 4 for a short time because it was adapted for the Xbox Series X, but I keep doing a lap. A very nice racing game.

2nd place: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

By now, at the latest, you should recognize a pattern while reading: Get the Xbox Game Pass. And with this title I want to give you another tip: Maybe the Ultimate subscription is worthwhile for you. At least for a short period of time.

From now on there is EA Play and another game that is on my (yes, very long) list of games: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I like Star Wars games when they’re well done and that’s the case here.

Incidentally, this title is still almost a 2020 game, as Fallen Order was only released at the end of 2019. And yes, get a) the Game Pass and b) Microsoft has to expand its portfolio of current, good and exclusive solo games for the Xbox in the coming years. 2020 wasn’t exactly the best year here.

Platz 1: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

If you look at Microsoft’s current commercials for the new Xbox, you’ll see Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (and Halo) very often there. This is because there was no major AAA title from Microsoft at the launch and they therefore focused a bit on the blockbuster from Ubisoft.

The game is also available for PlayStation, but I’ve played it on Xbox Series X and I’ve had a lot of fun so far. The new title doesn’t always go down well with the players, but I haven’t played a game in the series since Assassin’s Creed 2 and I went completely without expectations of the game.

I’m a big fan of open world games and Valhalla is one of the best games of its kind. The world is so incredibly big that I rarely continue the main story and prefer to explore the area. Or maybe it’s because the main story has been mediocre and without emotions so far.

Also, the characters look like they did in PS3 times.

Nevertheless, in the last few weeks it has somehow lured me back into the world of England and I can recommend Valhalla. I know that someone else will prepare a comment with arguments against it in their head, but that’s the great thing about games: there is no good or bad, because something is always subjective. And I’ll be spending a few more hours with Valhalla.
