Hyderabad: A 22-year-old student was involved in a robbery at a Muthoot Finance branch in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. After months of preparing a route map, the gang stole 25.5 kg of gold within 15 minutes. Hyderabad police have arrested seven people. Tamil Nadu police have launched a search for the two.
On Friday morning, a group of Muthoot Finance employees in Hosur were robbed of their branch at gunpoint. Roop Singh Bhagal, 22, a student from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, was involved in the robbery. Hyderabad police arrested Shankar Singh Bhagal, a brother of the gang, Pawan Kumar, a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand, Bubender Manji, Vivek Mandal, Thekram and Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Meerut.
Roop Singh Bhagal stayed in Bengaluru for three months and chose Muthoot Finance in Hosur for the robbery. The robbers had reached Hosur, filmed a video on a mobile phone and prepared a route map. Six people in three bikes came to Muthoot for the robbery. Two men stood guard outside with colored guns. Two employees were taken hostage.
The rest opened the locker with the manager and stole the gold and cash. It all took just 15 minutes. The group returned on their bikes and abandoned the vehicle at the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. A lorry and an SUV were already parked here. The gold was transferred to Lori’s secret compartment. The lorry and the SUV sped towards Jharkhand.

The robbers were nabbed by a mob of more than 200 armed policemen led by Hyderabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar. Five persons traveling in an SUV were arrested at the Thondapalli toll gate near Shamsadbad. The lorry was also taken into custody from another toll plaza. 25.5 kg of gold, seven firearms and 86 rounds of ammunition were seized.
