TNI Major General Tri Budi Utomo has been transferred from Commander of the Presidential Security Forces (Danpaspampres) to Commander VI/Mulawarman. The appointment will make Major General Tri serve in guarding the area of East Kalimantan (Kaltim).
The mutation of Major General Tri Budi as Pangdam Mulawarman was interpreted as an order from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) so that his former bodyguard will oversee the construction of the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago.
It is known that Indonesia’s new capital city will move to North Penajam Paser Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan. Military observer Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS) Khairul Fahmi agrees with this view.
“Yes, I think that (controlling IKN) could be one of the reasons. As we know, President Jokowi tends to entrust positions of strategic value to people in his circle,” said Khairul Fahmi to reporters, Wednesday (29/6/). 2022).
To be known, IKN Nusantara is part of the security area of Kodam VI/Mulawarman. The process of moving to the new capital city will also be carried out in stages in 2022-2045.
He also saw the mutation of Major General Tri Budi adding to the long list of high-ranking officers (pati) who had been tasked with guarding Jokowi at the Palace in strategic positions and territorial commanders.
“Major General Tri Budi Utomo’s assignment as Commander of the Regional Military Command also shows that more and more officers in the palace circle are occupying strategic positions, especially in the territorial command line,” he said.
Khairul assessed that the military career of Major General Tri Budi was still quite long and could occupy the leadership of the TNI. He also saw that most of the potential candidates in the future were court circle officers.
“In addition, the appointment shows the consistency of the TNI in terms of regeneration, considering that Major General Tri Budi Utomo can be said to be one of the youngest Commanders of the Military Command and I think he has the potential to become one of the leaders of the TNI,” he added.
