Laugh, dance or just watch? Rue89Lyon gives you a non-exhaustive selection of events and outings not to be missed this October in Lyon. Don’t hesitate to give your good tips in comments.
A dose of STUP?
Rest assured, our suggestion does not contain any illicit substances. Although your head might also spin from laughing so hard. After a first edition in May 2023, the Lyon Stand-up festival returns to the bottom of the Pentes de la Croix-Rousse, with a new formula.
This time, the LGBTI community is in the spotlight since “Comedy Pride” opens the ball. Five comedians from this community will take turns during a one-hour set which opens the first evening. The festival also invites you to discover “emerging artists from the local scene” of stand-up, with two one-hour shows per evening, where you will be entertained by Bamba, Yanisse Kebbab or Jérémie Reners.

Illustrations to take your eyes away
Kiblind wants to bring illustration out of the pages of his magazine. The Lyon quarterly magazine dedicated to visual culture is organizing a festival on October 7 and 8 in Lyon. Around fifty artists from all over the world will come and create illustrations live, in the Subsistances glass roof, on Saturday. Each invited artist will be provided with a 6-sided white die that he or she can dress as he or she wishes. It will be possible to attend this creation live but also to find all of the dice on display the next day, free of charge. Also on the program: workshops, short films, other exhibitions and conferences. All in a unique place, always at Subsistances.

One last techno evening at Ninkasi
At the beginning of November, the Ninkasi Gerland will close its doors to begin a phase of work. Sad news for Lyon fans of electronic music of all kinds, who will lose one of their HQ. To console yourself, there is still the whole month of October to enjoy it.
Why not treat yourself to a bit of nostalgia, with an evening straight out of the 90s and 2000s? The Pyramiid Production association, a regular at the venue, is organizing its 10th Neo Rave on October 20, with Esteban Desigual headlining. Neo raves, an evening format born a year ago in Lyon, offer an eclectic program that alternates between rave, hard trance, euro dance, hard techno, happy hardcore, hard dance, acid techno. Of course, 90s and Y2K inspired looks are more than welcome.

Fresh Painting, it’s a show!
This year, the Peinture Fraîche festival is dropping its bombs in the former Fagor factories, in the 7th arrondissement. From October 11 to November 5, the very “street-art compatible” place, known for hosting the Nuits Sonores, will be transformed into a graffiti mecca. 75 artists, exhibitions, live performances and conferences, festival regulars and the curious will have plenty to treat themselves to a little change of scenery.
For the more adventurous, a 7,000 m² graffiti park (the largest in Europe, we are promised) will be installed outside. All budding graphists will be able to come and try their hand at handling the bomb, without risking seeing the constabulary tumble.

Traveling by taking the Forbidden Senses
Created in 2009, the biennial international theater festival Sens Interdites is back in Lyon, from October 14 to 28, for an eighth edition. 18 shows and 44 performances by companies from all over the world (Rwanda, Mali, Poland, Belarus, Lebanon, Palestine, etc.) are planned in 25 locations across the Metropolis. The festival marquee will be set up at Place des Célestins.
This eighth edition will be marked by the ongoing global upheavals, and will largely address the themes of war and exile. A particularity of the festival (apart from the fact that strict parity is respected among the directors), the shows are in the original language (we reassure you, there are also subtitles!).

High bodies and choreography in Corbas
Three dancers snorting under dim lighting. An energetic, jerky soundtrack. And a decidedly hip-hop choreography. This is the program ofUnderdogs, a show offered on Friday October 20 at the Polaris cultural center, in Corbas. Under the leadership of Anne Nguyen, the Par terre Company offers a demanding and disconcerting performance, but resolutely energetic, to the point that one wonders how the artists manage to keep up physically for the 50 minutes that the performance lasts.
Underdogs unfolds a film that combines slow motion and fast forwards. A film that breaks down hip-hop, to magnify its gestures.
