Must pay 6.5 billion in divorce settlement

On Tuesday, the British court ordered the ruler of Dubai to pay his ex-wife and their children around 554 million pounds. This corresponds to around 6.5 billion Norwegian kroner. The divorce settlement is described as one of the most expensive ever in British history.

The British Supreme Court awarded a one-time settlement of 251.5 million pounds to Princess Haya Bint al-Hussein, who is the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan.

Depends on how long they live

Sheikh Mohammed is one of the richest men in the world. He is both Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates.

In addition to the one-time settlement of his ex-wife, Sheikh Mohammed must also make ongoing payments to their two children, Al Jalila (14) and Zayed (9), with a bank guarantee of £ 290 million at the bottom.

The total amount the children receive depends on, among other things, how long they live, and whether they choose to reconcile with their father. The settlement includes £ 11 million a year to cover security costs for Princess Haya and the children, as long as they are minors.

Below we also find budgets for holidays, salaries and accommodation for both a nurse and a nanny, armored vehicles for the family, and costs for maintenance of ponies and pets.

Ordered forced return of his daughters

In 2019, Haya fled with her two children to the UK. Here she sought custody of herself and the children through British courts. The princess, who is the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan, said at the time that she was afraid of her husband, who is said to have ordered two of his daughters forced to return to the Gulf emirate.

Princess Haya is the youngest of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum’s six wives. She is educated in philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University, in addition to being a committed rider who, among other things, competed in show jumping for Jordan during the Olympics in Sydney in 2000.
