Russia’s war in Ukraine is consuming large resources. But Russia is working to “as soon as possible” build up its military capability again – and thus pose a direct threat to Sweden and the rest of Europe.
– Russia is now restructuring its society in order to continue to be able to wage a costly and devastating war, says Thomas Nilsson, head of Must, who points to a complex world situation with several parallel crises.
He also states that Russia has continued capability for naval operations in the Baltic Sea.
– We know that Russia has an interest and presence in and across the Baltic Sea.
“Must do more”
In the report, Must urges Swedish authorities in total defense to act, and quickly.
– It is required that we all have to step up and do more, and we have to do it in a fairly short time, because time is not on our side. We have a lot to do, but we must develop the total defense capability but also the robustness of the entire society.
How urgent is it?
– It is probably in such a hurry that we may not then be able to say when we have to be ready, but we have concluded that we must be up and running now, there is no time for any respite, but we must act today.
What does it mean for Swedish security if Trump comes to power in the USA?
– If American attitude and actions towards European security were to change against what we have seen recently, it will of course have a big impact on European security, and Sweden is part of it, so it will of course have an impact.
Must also warns of extensive intelligence activities against Sweden, and Russia, China and Iran are singled out in particular.
– It involves large-scale and long-term measures with the aim of disrupting vital Swedish systems and gaining access to information worthy of protection.
