Muslims and Christians together for Ramadan in Milan

(ANSA) – MILAN, 06 APR – Men and women of different faiths will meet together on Sunday 7 April at 7.30 pm at the church of San Bernardino, in Milan, to pray alongside each other and eat together, celebrating Iftar, the daily breaking of the fast. The initiative, organized on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, involves the Community of Sant’Egidio and the various Islamic communities of Milan. Several refugees will also participate in the initiative, having arrived in Italy with the Sant’Egidio humanitarian corridors program from the prison camps of Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, the Horn of Africa and the Lesbos refugee camp, or attending the Community Italian language and culture schools. “In this difficult and violent time, marked by war, by unjust deaths in the Mediterranean and by walls even in the city – writes the community of Sant’Egidio – Christians of all confessions, Sunni and Shiite Muslims and all believers share the need of common prayer for peace, in a spirit of universal brotherhood. The meeting is an opportunity to experience a sense of communion and sharing, reaffirming the commitment of men and women of different faiths to build peaceful and supportive cities, seeking in deep in its religious tradition – aimed at achieving peace – those good energies that can unite different people, reconcile those who are distant, heal the wounds of fragile and fragmented societies”. Since 2007 in Milan Sant’Egidio has experienced this moment of friendship and spirituality with many Muslims during the month of Ramadan. (HANDLE).
