Muslim League Against Congress in Rajya Sabha; Criticisms During the debate on the Uniform Civil Code

New Delhi: Muslim League criticizes Congress in Rajya Sabha. PV Abdul Wahab stressed that not a single Congressman was present in Parliament when the Unified Civil Code was debated. BJP MP Kirori Lal Meena had sought permission to introduce the Unified Civil Code as a private bill in the Rajya Sabha. MPs from the Muslim League and the CPM had protested in the first phase demanding that the permit not be granted.

“The Uniform Civil Code Bill has been tried several times here. Friends of the BJP are deliberately trying to provoke. The Uniform Civil Code is not applicable in India. A Uniform Civil Code cannot be applied here no matter how many majorities there are and no matter how hard they try to enforce it. We are talking about the civil code, not the penal code. Even if they cannot tolerate it, then what can one say. Intolerance is everywhere.

I have one thing to say to my BJP friend. Let them come up with a law about it when the government deems it necessary. Until then you have one. You will still pass this bill. Because we all have some opponents here. In any case, this bill is not in the best interest of India or its people. So please be prepared to withdraw this bill. And it saddens me that friends in Congress are no longer here. In fact, this is the first thing that comes to mind” – said Abdul Wahab.
