Muskoka, the mare trained by Henk Grewe in Cologne-Weidenpesch, won the 165th Diana Prize, the so-called German mare derby, in Düsseldorf on Sunday (6 August) and is worth a total of 500,000 euros.
With jockey Lukas Delozier, the daughter of the 2014 Derby winner, Sea The Moon, finished after 2200 meters with a neck length advantage over Kassada, ridden by Maxim Pecheur, from the Röttgen Stud in Rath-Heumar, who had previously led for a long time. Third place went to the French guest Sea The Lady (Clément Lecoeuvre) on the track, which had been heavily sodden by the rain.
Cologne mare Muskoka: Fourth victory in six starts
For three-year-old Muskoka, it was her fourth win at the sixth start of her career, and she was never worse than second. The mare is owned by the Golden Goal stable around Lars-Wilhelm Baumgarten.
In Düsseldorf, the prize money was 300,000 euros, which means that Muskoka’s winnings now amount to 354,000 euros. For Grewe it was the first victory of his coaching career in the Diana.
