The American electric car manufacturer Tesla will start accepting bitcoins again as a means of payment when “digging” them begins to pollute the environment less. This was announced by the head of the company, the multi-billionaire Elon Musk, quoted by world agencies and BTA.
Musk wrote on Twitter that Tesla will start accepting bitcoins again when it is confirmed that about half of the electricity for their extraction comes from clean sources, with a tendency to increase this share.
The company caused a sensation in February when it announced that it would start accepting bitcoin as a means of payment – something that became a reality in late March. Only a few weeks later, however, Elon Musk made a 180-degree turn, arguing the need to protect the environment, recalls AFP.
The most popular cryptocurrency is obtained from powerful computers that consume huge amounts of electricity.
Today, bitcoin rose by about 10 percent, and just before 3 o’clock it was trading for over 39,100 dollars, TASS reported.
