Whether and how the president can implement his government policies depends on the balance of power in Congress with the House of Representatives and the Senate. If the other party has a majority in even one of the two chambers of parliament, it will be difficult to successfully implement legislative proposals given the current polarization of US politics.
Democrats risk losing control of the Senate
Trump’s Republicans currently have the majority in the House of Representatives and President Joe Biden‘s Democrats control the Senate – but only thanks to the additional vote of Vice President Kamala Harris, who can intervene in deadlock situations. She faces Trump in the presidential election on November 5th.
On the same day, all seats in the House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be reassigned. The Democrats are at risk of losing control of the Senate as polls show that they are likely to lose a mandate.
Musk gave $75 million to America PAC, which supports Trump’s campaign, from July to September. The entrepreneur, who now represents many right-wing conservative positions, also appears at events in so-called swing states such as Pennsylvania. The result in the state could decide the presidential election if the outcome is close.
