Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter, uses that medium to launch attacks on famous people. One of his new targets is Anthony Fauci, the immunologist who advised the US government during the corona crisis.
“My pronouns are haunted and jawed,” Musk wrote. According to New York Times are those words that might resonate with the right-wing of the American population.
For example, Musk has received praise from Marjorie Taylor Greene of “Far right”, but at the same time criticism from Democrat Amy Klobuchar. Twitter users reported that Musk’s predictions about the pandemic were far from reality. He’s always been an opponent of lockdowns, especially when they’ve turned out to have an impact on the employment rate at his Tesla factories.
Marc Van Ranst
Virologist Marc Van Ranst says that after Musk’s tweet appeared, he “immediately noticed the effect in the messages, emails and replies” he received. And this while the threats – in the absence of corona – have become slightly older. “But now they have found a second wind to threaten the scientists. Elon Musk assured this with his megaphone on his platform. It’s not fair,’ Van Ranst told Dutch RTLNieuws.
And on Twitter, Van Ranst writes: ‘Tweets like Elon Musk’s are oxygen for the idiots who have been harassing scientists for years. Musk endangers science and scientists.’
And the companies?
Fauci wasn’t the only one under fire. Musk also lashed out at Yoel Roth, one of Twitter’s leading figures before the takeover. For example, he tweeted an excerpt from Roth’s doctoral thesis to make it appear that he was in favor of underage access to online porn.
Companies that had suspended their contributions to Twitter during the turmoil surrounding the acquisition don’t seem inclined to support Musk now. For example, Apple declined to respond. Insiders believe it is part of a tactic to generate revenue from sources other than ads.
