Musica Mundi Ensemble to Offer “Music of the World” for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day
The Musica Mundi ensemble will be providing a New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebration accompanied by “Music of the World” on Sunday, December 31, 2023, and Monday, January 1, 2024, respectively, at 5:00 pm in the Martinskirche in Müllheim.
As a cross-generational concert project, the ensemble has come together to create entirely new and distinctive soundscapes through the diverse concert experiences of its members. Tilo Wachter’s HANG will meet the Gothic harp, Stephanie and Annelie Rieber will engage in a playful dialogue between the accordion and cello, and Jutta and Albrecht Haaf will bring their extensive experience and diverse range of instruments from their 40 years of concert tours with the “Freiburger Spielleyt” ensemble.
Through their collaboration, Musica Mundi allows the audience to experience the vastness of the Finnish tundra as well as the lively atmosphere of the Seine riverbanks in Paris, accompanied by the Musette. “Taksim by night” will recreate the ambiance of a folkloric festival on Taksim Square in Istanbul, and even Billy Joel’s “Root-Beer-Rag” will make an appearance.
One composition that holds particular relevance in 2023 is the piece “Prayer” by Jewish composer Ernest Bloch for cello and piano. Annelie Rieber, a 15-year-old multiple award-winning recipient in the national competition “Jugend Musiziert,” possesses the maturity necessary to interpret this sensitive work. The program will be rounded out by original compositions from Tilo Wachter and Albrecht Haaf. During intermission, attendees will have the opportunity to toast to the new year.
