Musician Remme (22) can be seen on billboard Times Square for three days

Singer Remme from Eindhoven shines for three days on a gigantic billboard on Times Square in New York. More than fifty billboards hang on the famous square in The Big Apple, where pictures of the world’s best-known artists and brands normally appear.

Five years ago, the 22-year-old singer was still in Times Square and it seemed an impossible dream to be able to hang there himself. Towering skyscrapers rise on the large square in the center of New York and it is always light because of all the brightly colored advertisements on the dozens of billboards. It is one of the most famous places in New York and you don’t just hang your face there.

Totally unexpected, Remme found out that he could also be seen there. He told this on Wednesday in the Omroep Brabant radio program Afslag Zuid. “Someone from my music label sent me a picture of the billboard yesterday. I thought it was photoshopped so I quickly looked up live images of Times Square. And then I actually saw myself passing by. For about fifteen seconds. Bizarre.”

Remme has been involved in music for a long time, but only released his first song shortly before the lockdown. The musician was born and raised in Eindhoven and still lives there. Yet he can be found a lot in Germany. His record label is also located there. He writes music with his label.

Shortly after the launch of his first issue, the coronavirus struck. His music has been widely played on the radio and his song has been listened to several million times on Spotify. But he rarely played in front of the general public.

However, he was approached through his German music label by the world’s most famous music streaming service Spotify. They try to promote new, emerging artists with a special program. And Remme was also on their list. “I don’t know exactly how they got to me,” he said. “The Spotify Netherlands team was present at a performance during a Dutch festival. Maybe they saw and remembered me then.”

Now Spotify is doing its best to expose Remme. A few weeks ago they came by to shoot a short documentary about him. Together with seven other artists, he can be seen in Times Square for three days. “I get a lot of reactions on social media. And I also gained a few hundred followers. I don’t know if more people are going to listen to my music now. I’ll have to check that out in a few days.”
