The singer revealed in a documentary unveiled this weekend at the Toronto festival that she has been suffering from hematological cancer since 2018.
Musician Patti Scialfa, wife of Bruce Springsteen, revealed in the documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, screened in preview on Sunday evening at the Toronto festival, to be suffering from blood cancer.
Patti Scialfa was diagnosed in 2018 during the “Springsteen on Broadway” tour. Her cancer was at an early stage at the time. While her health is better, she explains in the film that the disease has impacted her immune system.
“I have to be careful where I go and I have to be careful what I do,” she says in the documentary, which does not yet have a release date in France. “This is my new daily life from now on.”
Limited appearance on tour
Due to her diagnosis, Patti Scialfa has limited her appearances on Bruce Springsteen’s 2023-24 tour, performing only a handful of songs per show.
The singer had justified her absence several months ago by her decision to devote more time to the production of her solo album. Road Diaryshe clarifies that she prefers to limit her public appearances to protect her health.
Bruce Springsteen himself suffered from a stomach ulcer that forced him to postpone all his concerts between September and December 2023. Also affected by a loss of voice, he cancelled several dates in Europe this summer.
