He was born on January 23, 1954 in Havlíčková Brod. After graduating from high school, he studied classical guitar at the Prague State Conservatory. He started out as a folk musician, from the age of fifteen he was a member of several genre groups. In 1981 he was the birthplace of the Prague group Jasná Páka. Drummer David Koller was also a member.
