The life of musician Isolde Lasoen (43) has irregular rhythms. During the weekend she works: performances enough. That makes it all the more enjoyable when she is at home, preferably with friend Piet and sons Elko and Arlo. Because internally, Isolde doesn’t always ground well, she says in our series in which BVs talk about their ideal weekend. “In the evening I wonder: did I really enjoy it?”
“My weekends usually consist of performing. If I don’t have to work, chances are my boyfriend will have to leave. He is tour manager for Flip Kowlier and my band, so there are hardly any weekends when we are all home. The advantage: not having anything on the weekend agenda, almost gives us a holiday feeling.”
“On such a free Friday or Saturday evening I enjoy not having to go outside. For me, ultimate fun is laying on a vinyl record with a good glass of wine. I see that as a reward for myself. Before I start cooking, sit down and relax, it’s the time of day I look forward to the most.”

“I have the same thing with my coffee on the weekend, in the morning on a bench. Another slow moment, alone. I can feel rushed, I’m not always grounded inwardly. “Because of the irregular schedule, my friend and I can catch up on unexpected moments. In the beginning of our relationship, being together so little was more challenging. Meanwhile, we know that we will spend a lot of time together. We’re chill about it. Another luxury is that I see the children more than someone with a 9-to-5, because either Piet or I am almost always there when school is out. The boys are ten years apart, which makes it dynamic. The eldest is already a babysitter.”

“What I find more difficult about weekends away are the social activities that we miss. That’s why I feel I need such a free Sunday to walk and eat pancakes. Or a long breakfast. Being in a flow like now with the record is fun, and I’m going for it. But after a busy week, I can also look forward to decompensating. With a good record.”
