The Tod a loved one is in most cases a severe blow of fate for the bereaved – it is all the more important for the relatives to be able to say goodbye to the deceased in a dignified funeral service. In the case of Brentnol McPherson, a musician from Canada who was also known to his fans and friends as Bonny Brent and Cabbage McPherson, the funeral was anything but ordinary.
Bonny Brent is dead: deceased musician put on drums for the funeral service
At the end of April, shortly after the death of the Guyana-born musician, recordings of the funeral ceremonies for Brentnol McPherson, which took place at the Covenant Funeral Homes in Toronto (Canada), were circulating on Facebook. The funeral home, which describes itself as Canada’s first black-run funeral home, had apparently pulled out all the stops to commemorate the late drummer in the most individual way possible. “Bonny Brent” was not, as is usual at many funerals, laid out in a coffin and mourned by his relatives – the corpse was rather draped while sitting on a drum set in the mourning hall!

At first glance, the scenario shared by the funeral directors on YouTube didn’t look like a memorial service at all. Anyone who only glanced at the gentleman, who was sitting at his instrument in a yellow tracksuit and a white cap with drumsticks on his head, might have thought that a concert was about to begin. It only became clear on closer inspection that the drummer was no longer alive: the inscription “Bonny Brent, 1952 – 2021” on the bass drum indicated that a dead man was being thought of here. The celebratory flower arrangements in the funeral hall did the rest to prepare Bonny Brent a truly unforgettable funeral service.

As an employee of the funeral home said on YouTube, she was an acquaintance of the deceased and, like Bonny Brent’s bereaved, wanted to hold a funeral service that wanted to celebrate the musician in death, as was the case during his lifetime. Numerous mourners paid their last respects to Brentnon McPherson and sometimes even posed for souvenir photos next to the seated corpse. By the way, Bonny Brent was buried in a traditional coffin – lying down.
