Sounds that heal the soul. The frantic rhythm of the emergency room of the Niños de AcostaÑu General Children’s Hospital was replaced for a few moments by the rhythm of music.
Shortly after 11:00, the racing and consultations stopped. The microphones and speakers were ready. The Christmas serenade was about to begin. The doctors and residents left their notes and prescription stamps and prepared their voices and their souls.
As they have been doing for a few years, the professionals have entertained the little ones with art.
The artistic moment took Rocío Luque and her daughter by surprise as they waited to consult. The two arrived from Capiatá to the service center located in Reducto, San Lorenzo.
“I didn’t think I would come to see this show. It’s beautiful. With this you don’t feel the wait. It would be very nice if all hospitals did the same”, was Rocío’s wish.
Hugo Santacruz was also pleasantly surprised as he waited for his daughter to be treated.
“It is very nice what the children have experienced. It’s quite comforting, since when you come here you don’t enjoy it all that much. It’s a very nice gesture from the doctors,” said Santacruz, who arrived from JA Saldívar.
REASON. The traditional Christmas serenade has been performed for years to bring joy to families who, for various reasons, go to clinics or are hospitalised. Many of them have to spend their holidays in the hospital.
Isaura Cabral, resident pediatrician, attended the celebration for the second time. “It’s a way to love and entertain the kids who are going through these times. We want to show that not everything is sad in this place. That in addition to healing them, we want to give them spiritual pampering”.
The pediatrician says they do their best to bring happiness to their little patients and their families.
“It means a lot to us, because it strengthens the spirit and we keep all the customs alive,” said Isaura, who confessed that she was very excited to participate in the traditional event.
From the day before, the doctors prepare the repertoire of songs that they will offer to the audience.
Guest musicians usually join in the entertainment. Yesterday the event saw the participation of the requintista Roscer Díaz. The artist, together with his group, delivered boxes of masks as a donation to the hospital.
The serenade began in 2015, promoted by Dr. Guido Cheaid. His daughter, pediatric endocrinologist Mara Cheaid, currently runs the organization.
“We want children to be able to participate. There are those who come with a blanket and everything to listen to us», describes Mara.
The happiness on the faces of the little ones is one of the most emotional moments of the party, she reveals.
“They are dazzled when they see something different in the hospital. They love everything that is music, colors. Seeing those little faces is priceless,” she describes.
CLINICS. The Pediatric Hematology Department of Clínicas plans to celebrate Christmas HOPE 2022 with two activities.
Little cancer patients will be able to enjoy today, from their windows, the launch of fireworks and the concert of the Police Band.
I didn’t think I’d come here to find it. It’s super cute, what they do is very exciting. Rocío Luque, mother of the patient.
I tell colleagues that we need to have more humanity and that they are encouraged to give this gift to patients. Mara Cheaid, organizer doctor.
