Paris (AP) – The violonist Ivry Gitlis is dead. The Israeli artist died on Thursday in Paris at the age of 98, reported the AFP news agency, citing Gitlis’ son David.
French head of state Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to Gitlis’ services and called him one of the greatest violinists of his time. He gave his first concert at the age of seven.
The violin virtuoso has been a guest in the world’s most famous concert halls during his international career. Gitlis, father of four children, lived in the French capital.
