From this 6-track EP, Larbalestier extracted two songs that address the theme of gender and assertiveness but also sexual addiction via dating applications. Unambiguous clips accompany these two titles.
-Larbalestier (Florian of his first name) has always been immersed in music even though no member of his family plays an instrument. “My father is an unconditional Jacques Brel” confides the singer to us “and when, small, we made the road, to go to Vendée where he lives, we listened to Brel. I can say that I had the time to know all of the singer’s repertoire. Later I got interested in black American music, there was Stevie Wonder, Ela Fitzgerald. And then today, I like artists like James Blake ”
From Dijon to the United States
Larbalestier : “Very young, I took piano and music theory lessons at the Dijon Conservatory. I did Gospel in Dijon with Singall Gospel, I also attended Music’all Studio for a few years for musicals and other scenes in Dijon. I then went to the United States during my studies where I had a pop-folk music group with which I won a Talent Show in Oklahoma City ”
From the profession of teacher to music
“I have a master’s degree in English and I have taught this language in different establishments in Burgundy. At the same time, I continued the music. I started to have well-constructed songs that I was working on with Dijon singer and musician Charles Ferry. And then, I also had a Steam encounter during a workshop. This is Jean-Philippe Verdun who worked with Yaël Naim, Alain Souchon or even Etienne Daho. Jean Philippe liked my music and immediately encouraged me to go further while taking care of the arrangements and the mix of my EP in Paris at the Ferber studio. There, I no longer had the choice to ask for availability from the National Education ”
Is it an outcome?
“Yes it’s a culmination because I have been doing music and performing for several years, and my goal was really to make my own music. We will say that the first objective has been reached with this 6 songs with Pop Soul Electro sound. Titles in French and English in which I discuss subjects that touch me. Now the most difficult is yet to come, I am well aware of it ”
The first excerpt deals with assertiveness
“In, Just as a man, I do address self-assertion, to be able to be the man, the woman or even the non-binary person that you want, to be comfortable with the gender that you have chosen for yourself . On the musical side, I put forward my soul influences and black American music which makes me vibrate ”
Love Ecstasy, a slightly warmer track
«(To laugh) It’s a bit more chilled out. Like, we go home in the evening, we take a break and we listen to this song. For the text, I express the relationship that we can have with others during a meeting. Not spending enough time getting to know each other and being more in a carnal relationship and missing out on something or someone because of dating apps that lead to sex addiction ”
A carnal clip
“The accompanying clip,
Love Ecstasy, is a bit hot, I admit. He is tender and sometimes a little hard soft, but at no time vulgar and pornographic. Bodies that become entangled, give the impression of being naked. But in fact they are dressed in flesh-colored clothes. The main role, the role of the beast, is played by Pierre Lhenri, a Dijon actor ”
As soon as possible, Larbalestier will be on stage, notably in Dijon, Paris and other cities with a threshing machine on a multipad, Mélanie Centenero, and a keyboardist, Marc Nancy. In the meantime you can follow the singer on all social networks under the name of Larbalestier.
