Music stars celebrate 50 years of hip-hop at the Empire State Building

Music stars like Grandmaster Flash and Fab 5 Freddy celebrate 50 years of hip-hop at New York’s Empire State Building. The musicians should ceremoniously turn on the lights at the top of the famous skyscraper in Manhattan on Friday, which should then shine red, black and green on Saturday night, as the operators announced. The famous skyscraper in Manhattan lights up in a different color almost every evening to celebrate holidays or sports teams.

Hip-hop is said to have originated in the Bronx in 1973, when musicians like DJ Kool Herc didn’t play the complete songs on their records, but only the instrumental parts between the vocals – and then there was rap. Today, hip hop in all its forms is one of the most widespread styles of music.
