Tyla Cancels North American Tour Due to Injury
New music star Tyla postpones 2024 shows in the U.K. and Europe, and cancels all North American concerts
New music sensation Tyla, whose hit song “Water” boasts over 500 million streams on Spotify, has unfortunately been forced to cancel her highly anticipated North American tour due to a worsening injury. The South African singer made the announcement on Thursday, citing the need to focus on her health and well-being.
“As much as this is something I would rather have dealt with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today,” Tyla candidly expressed in a post on her social media.
Tyla, only 22 years old and widely known for her massive viral hit “Water,” disclosed that she has been silently suffering from an injury over the past year that has tragically been worsening. Despite seeking medical assistance and consultation, the pain has become increasingly agonizing, leaving Tyla with no choice but to prioritize her long-term health and safety over her highly anticipated performances.
This announcement comes as a devastating blow to Tyla, especially as she is currently experiencing a pivotal moment in her career. Not only did “Water” garner massive popularity on TikTok, but it also climbed the charts, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s success even prompted a remix featuring renowned rapper Travis Scott. Tyla’s unique sound, blending pop and R&B with Afrobeats, has been responsible for the rise in popularity of Amapiano music.
Moreover, Tyla had recently won the first-ever Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance and had been nominated for various prestigious awards, including a BRIT Award, a South Train Music Award, and two South African Music Awards.
Tyla’s debut album, slated for release on March 22, was announced by Variety in November, preceding the release of two follow-up singles, “Truth or Dare” and “Butterflies.”
Tour Cancellation Details
Tyla’s North American tour was eagerly anticipated by fans, with over a dozen dates scheduled, including a momentous appearance at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California. Unfortunately, the injury has made it impossible for the artist to proceed with the tour.
Tour dates affected by the cancellation include stops in major cities such as Philadelphia, Boston, and Toronto. Ticket holders for the North American headline dates will be automatically refunded, while those in other territories will be contacted by their respective ticket providers for further information.
Tyla addressed her fans, affectionately calling them “Tygers,” in a heartfelt message, expressing her gratitude for their unwavering support throughout her journey.
