Music: Report: Producer Herberger becomes director of the Pop Academy

According to information from “Mannheimer Morgen”, Michael Herberger is to become the new business director of the Mannheim Pop Academy.

Neither Herberger nor Naidoo belong to the band. Herberger, great-nephew of former national soccer coach Sepp Herberger, is to replace Hubert Wandjo, who is leaving office at the age of 70. The newspaper reports that the molecular biologist is the preferred candidate for the supervisory board. Its chairman, State Secretary Petra Olschowski (Greens), kept a low profile on Tuesday. A spokesman said they would neither deny nor confirm the personnel.

The Pop Academy, with around 100 highly sought-after study places, is the only university in Germany that focuses its courses specifically on popular music and creative industries.

According to the newspaper, Herberger originally applied as artistic director. However, after an eight-month selection process, the Supervisory Board judged the quality of the applications for this position to be insufficient. Therefore, the 71-year-old Udo Dahmen should remain in office until a successor is found.
