One year after the tragic murder of Juan Carlos Sauceda Vázquez, known in the music scene as Lefty SM, the rapper is still remembered with affection and admiration by his fans. The night of This Tuesday, September 3, a group of people gathered to pay tribute to him by bringing a norteño-banda ensemble to the mural that bears his face.located on the corner of Federalismo Avenue and its intersection with Independencia Street.
The mural, which has become a meeting point for those who wish to honor his memory, was made on September 18, 2023 by urban artist Fredy Muñoz, known in the street art world as “Sekta.” At the time, Muñoz explained that the work sought not only to pay tribute to Lefty SM, but also to send a message of awareness to society.“This is a way to reinterpret the issue that we are experiencing in society and send a message of awareness to the people, to the authorities and especially to young people who listen to and make rap,” he said in relation to the mural.
The rapper’s murder occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 3, 2023, in circumstances that still shock the community. According to the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office, three armed men broke into his home, located in the La Cima neighborhood of Zapopan, with the intention of removing him by force. However, Lefty SM resisted and was fatally wounded inside his own home. The violent attack was captured by security cameras, and although the videos were released in the hope of identifying the attackers, one year after the crime only one person has been arrested.
