The first Czech billionaire
Redzed has no long-term competition in terms of global numbers on our scene. The unusual rapper from Hustopečí near Brno passed a milestone in 2023. He was the first Czech artist to exceed the billion stream mark on digital platforms, with Spotify having the largest share of this. The modest performer benefits from an interesting mix of rap, trap and classic metal influences. The historic success of domestic music was achieved by the young performer in just three years.
Rappers as modern pop stars
The road trip that Calin and Viktor Sheen embarked on together in February 2023 has sailed to the current unprecedented victory on the domestic stage. The combination of two strong names, who have of course been working together for many years, worked and brought the most streamed song of the year – Safír – to a packed O2 Arena. At the same time, Viktor Sheen released the new album Planeta Opic immediately after the concert and then announced a solo performance at the same venue. While Sheen’s approach, at least at first glance, seems unusually casual, Calin has also thrived among shoppers’ shelves. The flavored drink Popstar, which bears the name of his latest self-titled album, became an absolute hit. Last year’s Angels, the discovery of the year, did not owe anything to their potential and evaluated rap like no other colleague on the domestic scene.

Women rule the world
On the domestic scene, rap rules the land, but on a global scale, it is clearing its privileged position. Why not, when he can rely on the biggest music star of today, which is indisputably Taylor Swift. Much has been written about the ticket sales (and shenanigans) for her hopelessly sold-out tour. The final statistics were dominated by Taylor thanks to the second most played record of the year, Midnights, which was supported from the seventh place by the previous act Lover. At the end of the year, she released an improved version of the breakthrough album 1989 with many star guests.
Among the singles, the hit song Flowers by Miley Cyrus’ artistic revival worked the most. SZA, who took the second place among the most streamed songs last year with the mega-hit Kill Bill, also made a strong attack from the back positions, the album SOS reached bronze.

Is reggaeton weakening and guitars strengthening?
Compared to last years, the influence of reggaeton penetrated the charts less for the strong Spanish-speaking community. Last year’s ruler Bad Bunny capitulated to the aforementioned Taylor Swift, Peso Pluma and Feid also recorded decent results in fifth and sixth place, respectively. An unstoppable increase can be noted in guitar music, which in this respect was significantly kept afloat this year by, for example, Måneskin, Bring Me The Horizon or the ageless The Rolling Stones, who released the highly rated new Hackney Diamonds.
