The music group Nakar has been invited to the Bilbao BKK Live festival to perform in the summer of 2025. An offer that the people of San Sebastián have rejected because they do not agree with the model of this event. This is how they have transferred it through their social networksin which they have posted the response they have given to the organization: “Sadly we have to say no, since we do not really agree with this type of macro festivals.”
Hordago-El Salto revealed in a report published in 2022 the model of these macro festivals, which receive several million euros in subsidies every year. For example, the Bilbao City Council grants 1.4 million and the BBK contributes another 300,000. It has also been denounced by the Court of Accounts of the Basque Country for its fiscal management and accused of subcontracting cheap labor on countless occasions. The promoter and organizer of the festival, Last Tour, is reported to be driving a Basque cultural industry that is increasingly uncritical and aligned with dominant interests.
This summer there have already been protests in Bilbao to denounce the miserable working conditions of the workers who work at the festival held on Mount Kobetamendi. Laneko Autodefentsa Sarea (LAS) pointed out in July the company Last Tour, which organizes BBK Live, and the Bilbao City Council, which gives way to it, as directly responsible for the precariousness suffered by those who work at the festival.
