The music museum Fame, located in Helsinki’s shopping center Tripla, has filed for bankruptcy.

The bankruptcy application of Finnish Music Hall of Fame Oy, which ran the museum, has been filed in the Helsinki District Court on May Day, April 30.

No official decision has been made in the matter yet. At the moment, the museum is open and continues to serve customers as usual.

The music museum Fame opened in Pasila in October 2019. Just a few months after the opening, the corona pandemic started and the museum was closed.

Fame is a non-profit museum run by a private limited company. It appears from the museum’s website that the design and construction budget was a whopping 4.3 million euros. 18 percent of the budget came from the public sector, when the state granted the museum an investment grant of 750,000 euros and the City of Helsinki a development grant of 210,000 euros.

Director of the museum Olli Ilmolahti states to Helsingin Sanomat that the money has run out. For example, the rental costs have become too high for the museum.

– The admission ticket income is not enough, Ilmolahti described to Helsingin Sanomat.
