Memmingen (as). More than a hundred expectant visitors of all ages gathered in the clear summer weather in the Antonierhof for the opening of the Memminger Meile culture festival. The prelude in and around the Antonierhaus was framed by ethereal sounds, music, magic and soap bubbles.
Variété, concerts, poetic performance, street art, children’s theater – three thrilling weeks, which should bring us together again, preferably in the open air, announced Mayor Manfred Schilder in his opening speech – a colorful festival as usual with offers for all age groups. According to Schilder, art and culture are the elixir of life for the entire city and an expression of a lively urban society.
Plea for art & culture
Also head of the cultural department Dr. Hans-Wolfgang Bayer focused on experiencing art and culture together. The Corona years have shown that political decision-makers pay too little attention to artists. Bayer’s plea for art as an important part of living together received a lot of applause: “Art needs support and appreciation. Spending on culture is an investment in the functioning of the community.”
Magic, music and meditative sound
Louis von Eckstein could not come up with the famous white elephant, but the humorous magician and mentalist knew how to fascinate his audience with classic magic tricks as well as with mind reading and a magical puzzle. Afterwards, the Memmingen band “borte” took the stage in the Antonierhof with indie folk and acoustic rock.
Anyone who preferred spherical sounds could relax and listen to the melodic-meditative sound of the handpans of the Memmingen musician Tobias Mrzyk and his colleagues on the meadow in front of the Antonierhaus. Maria Soellner created the matching dazzling, floating dreams. The giant soap bubble artist showed the little viewers how to create giant bubbles with soapy water, sticks and ropes.
The “Portraits in Motion” exhibition in the city library provided a foretaste of the evening program with the flip-book poet Volker Gerling (8 p.m., Antonierhaus). All in all, a successful start to the festival!
