Music, laughter, heat and aromatic plants in the Trobada de Alaquàs

With the radiant sun as a companion, the Trobada d’Escoles in Valencià de l’Horta Sud was held in Alaquàs, which had to be postponed in 2020 due to the confinement. About twenty schools, in addition to the local school community, have gathered first thing in the morning in the emblematic Parc del Dijous, with reduced capacity.

La Re # Trobada, as the Escola Valenciana has baptized the activity this year, commemorates the one that took place in the population 20 years ago (actually 21 due to the parenthesis of the pandemic). The mayor of Alaquàs, Toni Saura, as well as various councilors of the corporation, have been the hosts of an event which has been joined by the Regional Minister for Participation, Rosa Pérez, and the provincial deputies for Comarcalización, Dolors Gimeno, and Education , Empar Folgado, as well as mayors and councils of various municipalities.

The day began with the planting of Mediterranean aromatic species by the schools of the different municipalities of l’Horta Sud, previously supplied by the Escola Valenciana and which they have been taking care of in the schools since January. Lavender, thyme, rosemary and the like will grow in a specially enabled space.

This was followed by the classic parade of the participating schools, who attended with a minimum representation, with delivery of plaques included. The small open-air auditorium of the Parc del Dijous has been the setting for the entire morning in which the Marcel el Marcià group has put the musical note, with which schoolchildren, teachers and families, dressed in the T-shirt and hat of the Trobada, they have danced, played and applauded.

The day culminated in the planting of an almond tree in an area near the aromatic orchard, by the authorities and representatives of the Escola Valenciana, and the discovery of a plaque. The health crisis has not allowed workshops and other conventional activities to be organized.

The organization has defended that, even in the current circumstances, it is necessary to continue defending “the flame of the language” in times that have been especially difficult for children.

Tributes and previous activities

La Trobada de Alaquàs began weeks ago with the tribute that the town’s schools paid to various women representative of local history, such as Elvira García, Carme Mateu, Montiel Navarro or Amparo Alabau, as well as other women who were referents in various subjects. Days later, the Castell hosted the Saborit comarcarles awards.

The calendar will end on June 25 with a tribute to the former mayor Elvira García and the writer Mercé Viana, in addition to the first class of the population that studied in Valencian and the activist teachers of the region who have retired this year.
