Music is their life

Music has been part of the life of Rostock native Heide Mundo, who grew up in Warnemünde, since childhood. Since she was twelve, she was the first girl from Mecklenburg to perform on bass, rhythm and melody guitar with various Rostock bands. At that time she still played rock, today Low German songs are her hobbyhorse. “I actually come from rock and blues and I used to be the only girl with an electric guitar. At that time we still built the bass and the amplifier ourselves ”, Heide Mundo remembers the beginnings of her musical career. She does not regret the change from rock music to Low German songs: “I grew up with Low German and always found Low German music great.” With “Jochens Lüd” and the Rügen song, she was one of the best-known musicians of the genre on the Baltic coast.

In 1987 she made her first radio and television appearances. Her main job was as a soloist and band singer in various formations on the Baltic coast. In 1990, right after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Heide Mundo was the first woman from Mecklenburg to get an artist contract with the West German record company Arminia. In 1991 her debut album “Mien Herzing” was released with the Northern hit “Snack Platt” from the ARD authors’ competition “Songs as beautiful as the north”.

After training as a primary school teacher with music as an elective, the Warnemünder completed a university degree in Potsdam to become a qualified music teacher with a focus on singing and guitar. Even today, she is still being asked as a music teacher for the school radio. She is pleased: “I always enjoyed being a music teacher.” After completing her training, she continued to perform as a band and orchestral musician.

Performances and the regular presence with her songs on the radio are still part of the everyday life of the Warnemünde woman. In addition, Heide Mundo passes on her musical knowledge as the choir director of the women’s crew “SingManTau” to other singers. On Saturday, July 10th, the women’s choir will open the shanty afternoon in the Kurhausgarten at Warnemünde Week with a one-hour concert. In addition, the 69-year-old has been involved for many years in the non-profit association for Warnemünde, which organizes the Warnemünde Week summer festival.
