As in previous years, the Evangelical Church Community AB Hermannstadt will organize five concerts with chamber music in Evangelical churches in the Sibiu district under the name “Music in fortified churches”. There is a small organ in each of these churches, some of which are real jewels, others are in working order and will be restored.
The concerts will take place every Friday at 6 p.m. from July 9th, 2021 to August 6th, 2021. The debut will take place in Hammersdorf on July 9, 2021, followed by Grossau on July 16, 2021, Rothberg on July 23, 2021, Holzhaben on July 30, 2021 and again Hammersdorf on August 6, 2021. Chamber music and other works will be played the 17th and 18th centuries by composers who lived or played in Saxon villages at the time. In addition to the music of Saxon composers and chamber music, 300 years since the birth of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal are celebrated with the performance of some works that reached Transylvania through his initiative and were played in this region at the same time.
The venues can be reached by bike, as the routes are manageable. The locations were chosen so that they can be easily reached by alternative means of transport.
Admission is free, but we are happy to receive donations that help preserve the organs.
The events are part of the “Muzică în Bisericile Fortificate” project co-financed by the Sibiu County Council and the Sibiu State Filharmonic Orchestra.
