Céline Costa sings “live” Let the married women sing (Let the Brides Sing), a poem that appears in the collection Here is my heart, break it with a hammer.

All my life I have been a shepherdess
Of good will
I was born to be a shepherdess
Not to go to the city
I keep my little goats
And it’s a life that pleases me
I was born to be a shepherdess
Not to be a student
Not to be a student
I repeat it
Keeping my little goats
I learned to read and write
I learned to read and write
With desire and rigor
Without ever going to school
And without having a teacher
Keeping my little goats
This is my job
Poem A pastorinha (The Shepherdess), extract from “Here is my heart, break it with a hammer”
