The festival of symphony orchestras “Riga Jurmala”, which has already declared itself as one of the summer classical music destinations in Europe, will be performed in the summer of 2021 on four weekends from July 16 to August 29, the organizers inform.

The festival will feature world-class symphony orchestras and conductors such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor John Eliot Gardiner, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Ricardo Muti, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Daniel Harding, as well as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

Twenty concerts will also feature world classical music stars such as pianist Yuidja Vana, who also visited the Dzintari Concert Hall during the opening season of the festival, Icelandic pianist Vikingurs Olafsson, Sir András Schiff and Norwegian pianist Leif Ūve Andoss, Jefims Bronfmans, Jefims Bronfmans. . The festival will also feature cellist Truls Mjorks and violinist Reno Kapisons, as well as such outstanding opera singers as soprano René Fleming, bass baritone Brin Terfel, baritone Matthias Gerne and mezzo-soprano Alise Kūta.

Young and talented artists, including pianists George Lee, Daumants Liepiņš, Israeli pianist Joav Levanon, Behzod Abduraimon and Alexander Kantorov, will perform on the stage of the Grand Guild at the day’s concerts, which justified their unusual format by gaining popularity in the first season of the festival. Also this season, the vocal group “The King’s Singers” will perform on the stage of the Grand Guild.

The format of the festival will retain its current artistic concept, offering a series of mini-festivals on four weekends and taking place in Riga and Jurmala from July 16 to August 29, 2021.

“Although the global situation is still uncertain, we look to the future with a convincing and positive outlook and have decided to announce the festival program in time – both to support artists and the classical music industry and the region as a whole. I am very grateful to our supporters and partners, thanks to whom we can start working on the new festival season now. We will do everything in our power to ensure that next summer both local and international audiences can enjoy a safe and highest quality cultural experience, ”says Zane Čulkstēna, Executive Director of the Riga Jūrmala Music Festival.

“Like the previous festival season, next summer the festival promises to be special for several reasons. First of all, we are extremely grateful to the many artists who were ready to confirm the previously announced concerts, which could not be played this season, thus joining the artists’ plade, which has been planned since the opening season of the festival. We will also continue to collaborate with these outstanding artists as part of the festival’s educational program, which was a success online this summer, ”says Martin Engström, the festival’s artistic director.

In 2021, the music festival “Riga Jurmala” will continue the music education initiative, which is organized in cooperation with the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music – the state center of excellence in classical music education.

Riga Jurmala Academy will provide young and talented musicians from Latvia and abroad with the opportunity to meet artists during the festival and participate in music master classes, including world-class performers and orchestra musicians from the 2021 program, such as pianists András Šifs and Leifs have already confirmed their participation.

For the second season of the festival, cooperation with the Uniting History Foundation continues. The aim of this fund is to support organizations and initiatives aimed at preserving Latvia’s cultural and historical heritage. In cooperation with the Uniting History Foundation and the support of Liepaja City Council, an additional concert with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov will be held on August 9 at the Great Amber Concert Hall.
