The students of the Bernaldo de Quirós institutes, in Mieres, and Turón, yesterday held different activities on the occasion of Book Day, which is today.
In Mieres, Mayor Aníbal Vázquez, and the Councilor for Culture, Juan Ponte, accompanied students and teachers at the opening of the exhibition of mining materials and photographs, with materials donated by the Santa Bárbara Association, also represented at the event. In addition, the prizes of the literary contest of the center were delivered. The Orfeón de Mieres put the finishing touch.
At the IES Valle de Turón they focused their activities on the generation of the 50s and social poetry. Thus, the students have taken the courtyard of the Institute as if it were a blank page of a book and have been transformed into letters, words, verses.
Between students and teachers they formed and sang the verse “Poetry is a weapon loaded with the future”, by Gabriel Celaya. Later they drew with their bodies on the ground another of the great verses of the generation of the half century, “I ask for peace and the word”, by Blas de Otero. A way of giving life to poetry and claiming its future.
