A lot is still standing still in Berlin because of the pandemic – but at least something is happening behind some glass panes. The violinist Johanna Staemmler, for example, appears in the window of a gallery. She wants to set a sign of hope.

“We noticed in our environment that the hunger for culture is growing,” said Staemmler of the German press agency. The piece of music she played with her husband on Friday afternoon (February 19, 2021) was transmitted outside via a system. Only a short work is played and the sidewalk is sufficiently wide, said Staemmler in advance. It is important to them that the existing corona rules are observed.

Artist in crisis
Beverages Hoffmann would like to promote the local art scene in Berlin and the surrounding area with a creative competition and has launched the Art parade competition.
Artists, students and designers from Berlin and Brandenburg can take part until March 12, 2021.
moreSeveral such performances are planned, for example on Saturday in the Mitte district. The violinist misses contact with the audience. Concert halls and many facilities are still closed to contain the spread of the corona virus. Live streams are also great, but there is no exchange, said Staemmler. At the so-called “Window Concerts” you can hear people’s reactions despite the distance. The musician plays in the Armida Quartet. Because of the pandemic, many projects have been postponed for the time being. It is still unclear when it can start again. Until then, in any case, you can not only watch some artists online – but sometimes also behind shop windows.
