– A grotesque mockery of being human.
That’s what the artist Nick Cave writes about the now much-discussed language robot ChatGPT on his Homepage.
The move comes after several fans sent him songs they had asked the robot to write, in Nick Cave’s own style.
– Since it was launched in November last year, a number of people, in a kind of algorithmic awe, have sent me songs written “in the style of Nick Cave”, writes the artist in a post.
– There have been dozens of them. Suffice it to say that I do not feel the same enthusiasm about this technology, he writes.

– This song sucks
The artist himself has assessed the songs, and thinks the result is pretty bad.
– It can never be rolled back, or slowed down, when it moves us towards a utopian future, perhaps, or our total destruction, writes Cave.
And continues:
– Who can know the future? From this “Nick Cave-esque” song, though, it’s not looking good, Mark.
– The apocalypse is well on its way. This song sucks, he writes.

Generates texts
The language robot ChatGPT can generate texts on request, and has caused great debate in the Norwegian school system.
The artificial intelligence can do everything from answering questions such as the meaning of life, to generating texts inspired by writers and artists.
The robot is still in the testing phase, but the work to develop ChatGPT is still ongoing.
– It may sound like I’m taking all this a little too personally, but I’m a songwriter who is engaged, right now, in the process of writing songs, writes Cave.
– It is a blood-consuming process, here at my desk, which requires something from me to get a fresh and new idea.
– It requires my humanity, writes Cave.
