Music at the castle and adventure films in Gammertingen

This year, the Gammertingen Cultural Summer will take place on four consecutive days. From Wednesday, September 4th to Saturday, September 7th, two films will be shown and two bands will perform in the evening on the large castle square.

Other music styles are welcome

There is a new feature in the two musical contributions to the cultural summer. Up until now, these have always been held under the title “Jazz at the Castle”. This year, that will change. “We don’t want to dedicate the music events to just one genre,” says Nina Rumpel from the city administration. She has taken over the organization of the cultural summer this year. Preparations for this began in March.

I’m looking forward to the bands. I’m a total music person.

Last year, two bands from Gammertingen performed. This time, Pentomino from Albstadt/Sigmaringen will be on stage on Friday and Pig Ass and The Hoodlums on Saturday. It starts at 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m. Entry is free. “I’m looking forward to the bands. I’m a total music person,” says Rumpel. She chose the bands. Pentomino has already seen Rumpel play at the Sigmaringen town festival. Pig Ass and The Hoodlums were recommended to her by friends.

Pentomino plays cover songs from several eras and musical styles. Pig Ass and The Hoodlums present 1950s rock ‘n’ roll from musicians such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly.

It starts with two adventure films

The cultural summer starts with film screenings on Wednesday and Thursday. As in the previous year, adventure films from the European Outdoor Film Tour (EOFT) and the Ocean Film Tour (OFT), which focuses on short films about the sea, will be shown.

On Wednesday evening, the EOFT film will present several adventurers who travel halfway around the world on motorbikes, climb mountain slopes or snowboard. On Thursday, the OFT will celebrate its tenth anniversary with short films by marine researchers, surfers, environmentalists and an ice swimmer.

“The two films were well received last time,” says Rumpel. In previous years, current cinema films were shown. The films are shown in the original language with German subtitles and last around 130 minutes, including a 30-minute break. Doors open for both film events at 7:30 p.m. The screenings begin at 9 p.m. “We have seating for 450 people. If the weather is bad, we move to the auditorium in the high school,” says Rumpel.

Last year, the two film screenings took place in the large castle hall. “This year we said that we needed a plan B in case the weather got bad,” says Rumpel. Tickets are available in advance online on the city’s website for eight euros or at the box office for ten euros.
