Music and good food invaded the first edition of PortAmérica México

Guadalajara (Mexico), 12 November. To the rhythm of rock, jazz and Latin rhythms, the Mexican city of Guadalajara, in the west of the country, was the setting this Saturday for the first version in Mexico of the musical and gastronomic festival PortAmérica Latitudes, originally from Galicia, Spain.

The festival has landed in the Plaza Bicentenario to offer a space where the diversity of sounds is combined with the aroma and flavor of the dishes prepared in the “showrocking” section.

The square was filled with the feminist rap-cumbia of the Mexican duo Mare Warning, the danceable rhythms of the Colombian Las Guaracheras, the jazz coming from an ensemble of Latin musicians and the pop rock of the Mexican singer Siddhartha.

Rhythm electronic band Porter and Spanish rock group Vetusta Morla headlined the festival event and all made the audiences who gathered around these groups jump and dance.

In the “showrocking”, 12 haute cuisine experts from Mexico, Spain, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile, led by the famous Galician chef José Solla, gave the festival a culinary twist.

Mexicans such as Francisco Ruano, of the renowned Alcalde restaurant and Xrysw Ruelas, one of the “100 most influential women in Mexico”, according to Forbes magazine, but also the Chilean Carolina Bazán, the Colombian Catalina Vélez, the Spanish Begoña Rodrigo and Vicky Sevilla, among the others delivered the best of their recipes to the participants.

In a space open to the public, the chefs showed them the processes of cooking dishes with a mixture of Ibero-American ingredients, as well as taking pictures and livening up the atmosphere by offering participants some ‘shots’ of tejuino (Mexican da fermented corn native to the state of Colima) combined with traditional Jalisco tequila.

Galician seafood, very Mexican quesabirias and tamales, tuna tostadas, fish tartare or pork croquettes, were part of the menu that attracted lovers of good food, who never missed the opportunity to be accompanied by beers and tequila.

The electronic folk and hip hop of the Instituto Mexicano del Sonido band together with the funk of the Congolese Jupiter and Okwess were in charge of giving the final point to this festival in which the Guadalajara public put its five senses to the test. EFE extension
