Anyone interested in old instruments should head to the medieval town of Füssen. It is considered the cradle of European lute and violin making. There is also a music festival in the autumn.

The “vielsaitig” music festival takes place in Füssen in the autumn. From August 28th to September 4th, visitors can listen to concerts in the Benedictine monastery of St. Mang – the focus is on the interrelationship between instrument making and music.

Bavaria’s highest town is considered the cradle of European lute and violin making. Between the 15th and 18th centuries, many lute makers and violin makers settled there. The baroque rooms of the former monastery, where the concerts take place, also house a high-quality collection of Füssen instruments.

The festival’s program, which has been running since 2003, promises to be varied under the artistic direction of Julian Steckel. According to the organizer, the invited musicians include the Aris Quartet, the violinist Antje Weithaas, the young pianist Kivelli Dörken and the star clarinetist Sharon Kam. The jazz pianist Omer Klein will also perform one evening in the Kaisersaal.
