According to Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Green) cultural events should be possible again from January 18. A number of museums are ringing in the reopening identically: Before new exhibitions are presented, many museums show the exhibitions from last year for the time being. This means that visitors should not miss any exhibition despite the CoV crisis.
Focus on climate change
The new exhibition year at mumok begins on March 26th with “Enjoy”. This gives an insight into the development of the mumok collection over the last few decades from classical modernism to the present. At the same time, an exhibition by Heimo Zobernig can be seen. From April 22nd the exhibition by Ane Mette Hol and from September 25th the artistic work of Wolfgang Tillmans will be shown. For the time being, however, the exhibition “On the extremes of good and evil” by Hugo Canoilas can be seen.
In 2021, the Vienna MAK will focus on two areas: climate change and Viennese modernism. The major exhibitions “The Women of the Wiener Werkstätte” and “Josef Hoffmann, Progress Through Beauty” will be made up for. The exhibition “Private Houses” by Adolf Loos can also be seen.
Between May 28 and October 3, the motto “Planet Love. Climate Care in the Digital Age ”showed five exhibitions at the MAK. These take place as part of the Vienna Biennale for Change. It is carried out jointly with the University of Applied Arts Vienna, the Kunsthalle Wien, the Architekturzentrum Wien, the Vienna Business Agency as well as the Kunst Haus Wien and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Art in transition
Before the “Vienna Biennale for Change” opens, the exhibition “Cybernetics of the Poor” can be seen in the Kunsthalle Wien until March 28th. It is about the relationship between art and cybernetics – that is, self-regulating systems. Until mid-April, “Shadow Citizens” gives an insight into the extensive work of Zelimir Zilnik.
For the year 2021 the exhibitions “The Body Electric. Erwin Osen and Egon Schiele ”and“ Josef Pillhofer. Retrospective “planned. The opening of the two exhibitions should take place in April. Until then, the “Inspiration Beethoven” by the Viennese Art Nouveau painter Josef Maria Auchentaller can be seen. Emil Pirchan’s “Visual Revolution” will also be shown.
Portraits from the interwar period
The Albertina starts on February 12 with the exhibition “Faces. The Power of the Face ”in the new exhibition year. Portraits from the German interwar period are shown. At the beginning of March, visitors can take a stroll through landscapes from five centuries. The exhibitions “True Lies”, “American Photography” and “Michela Ghisetti” can be seen throughout the year.
The current exhibition “The Essl Collection” will be shown in the Albertina Modern until March 14th. The works of the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki can be seen from April 30th. With the exhibition “The 80s” from October 10th an insight into the 1980s will be given.
